AHBC is a tented camp at the heart of the conservancy accommodating up to 30 people and hosting regular visits from researchers from a variety of different disciplines, in particular ethno-botany, anthropology, archaeology, arts and music, cosmology and astronomy. Other projects include an anti-poaching and habitat conservation program for imperiled African wildlife and a research program that has conducted studies on the region's medicinal plants and food sources of the black rhino.
A flourishing nursery and replanting program for native species has been undertaken, as well as assisting the women of the Pokot and Turkana tribes, Kuki's neighbours, with the development of micro-enterprises utilizing their specialized knowledge and skills.
Full time staff include a resident ecologist, botany technician, resident entomologist, education officer, and thirty wildlife rangers and support staff.

SAFETY AND HOW TO GET THERE;
Ol ari Nyiro is a secure, partially fenced, private estate and wildlife sanctuary where total privacy is guaranteed. We are far from towns and communications are difficult. Three private licensed airstrips are part of the estate. The distance from Nairobi is 300 km and takes four hours by car or one hour by air.
Transport can be arranged at a cost. Although all reasonable precautions are taken to ensure visitors safety, and the place is covered by general accident insurance, wild animals are unpredictable and can be dangerous, and this is a piece of wild African bush, with steep ravines and untamed nature.
We advise visitors to be independently insured for health and accident and signing of a waiver is compulsory.
